Third Grader? Where Has Time Gone?
It seemed like yesterday we created a “10 Weeks of Summer” checklist. But here we are, back with a new school year for Z. It is so hard for me to believe she is a third grader. As in she is halfway done with her elementary tenure. Although I have enjoyed the summer with her and Aaron together, I longed for the crazy bustle of the school year (anyone else feels me???). Z’s excitement did not really hit her until she met her teacher last Thursday at the school’s Meet and Greet. After reading her teacher’s short bio, Z beamed that her teacher was just like her…crafty, outdoorsy, same hometown, and loves to eat healthy food. #winning
Prepping for the Big Day
Over the past weekend, Z:
- packed her backpack (she went with a floral design again) with her supplies
- laid out her clothes for the week (little fuss since she has been blessed with some cute outfits)
- made a sweet note for her teacher (so like Z to make her teachers a handmade gift)
- created her own first day of school sign (because my version would not have been as cool as hers)
Back to School Hairdo (See Post Here)
Last week, I asked Z what kind of style she would like to wear on her first day (ahem…first 2 weeks) of school. We browsed briefly through YouTube and came across a video tutorial that struck her cord. She wanted a crossover braided hairstyle with twists on the side. Say whaaa? LOL. Z set the bar high with this one. You can view the GlamFam video here (new window). Of course I had to add my own spin to the style. I will explain my process in the next post, but here is how her hair turned out after watching the tutorial:
I will let you be the verdict, but I am pretty impressed with the results. My braiding skills were definitely stretched with this style (a good thing!), and it was worth the 4 hour effort. Z LOVED her style, which added one more layer to her back to school excitement. Here are a few sneak peek angles posted on our fb page (new window).
Z is all cowgirl and flowers right now. Z and her grandma went shopping earlier this month for the best first day of school outfit (shopping is their favorite pastime outside of eating McDonald’s ice cream sundaes). When Z found the red and blue dress pictured above, she was ecstatic! On top of that, she has been wanting cowgirl booties for the longest, and finally, her patience served her well. We found them at no other, Target. I have never seen a child get ready for school as quickly as she did. I guess I better enjoy it while it lasts…lol. She strutted almost the entire time before we left for school. #feelingherself #confident #insideandout
Her Verdict on Day One
I picked Z up from school and before I could ask how was her day (because she knew I was going to ask), she quickly exclaimed that her day was amazing. She loves her teacher, made a new friend, hung out with old buddies at recess, enjoyed her oatmeal for lunch (her quirky first lunch request), and cannot wait for day number two. Plus she got to talk to one of her favorite teachers (from kindergarten) while waiting in the carpool line. She could not have asked for a better start! So at the end of the day, all is well and we are officially back on the school hustle and grind schedule (yes!!!).
I am so proud of my little girl and the growth she has achieved. To have a child who still has a huge curiosity for learning and truly enjoys new experiences is such a profound blessing. I pray that God gives dad and me the patience to nurture these qualities in her while encouraging her to keep her sweet and humble spirit. I am bias, but Z’s a gem.
