Three days ago, I did a quick co-wash and apple cider vinegar rinse to alleviate my current scalp situation but was too tired to detangle my hair that night. Fast forward to last night, I decided to do another co-wash but this time to properly detangle my hair (and try out my Hot Head Deep Conditioning Cap). My hair was not that itchy since Saturday night but I did notice some dryness when I parted my hair in the front. I believe I will be moving forward with doing Aloe Vera Juice rinses soon in my regimen (and replacing ACV rinses) to see if any improvement will occur with my scalp.
My wash session went like this:
- Pre-pooed hair with Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner + Olive Oil. My hair was seriously tangled so I went heavy on the conditioner. I covered hair with a plastic bag then with my Hot Head cap for 1 hr. The heat felt so good on my scalp. I microwaved the cap twice (once in the beginning and again after 35 minutes) during my pre-poo session to maximize heat exposure. My scalp really felt the tingle of the conditioner during the second half of pre-pooing. When I removed the cap and plastic bag, my hair was sooooo soft. I divided my hair into two sections.
- Detangled hair in smaller sections with my fingers first and then with my modified Denman brush (my Knot Genies have not arrived YET…grrr). I do not know why it has been so challenging for me to section off my hair in simple 4-6 sections. When I had longer hair, it was much easier to section off my hair. Now that my hair is only 5-6 inches, I am having much grief with it. Nevertheless, I was able to easily detangle my hair while rinsing the conditioner out section by section. I twisted each detangled section until I completed my entire head. My shedding was normal. I rinsed over my twists and scalp thoroughly.
- Applied Aubrey Organics GPB Balancing Protein Conditioner to hair. I only tried this product on Z’s hair in prep for her yarn wraps so I was curious to see how this would work on my hair. I need to make note not to be so heavy handed with this product next time. I think I was enjoying the texture and feel of this conditioner a little too much. I can’t really stand a runny/water conditioner. This particular one is thick like a paste and has a strong peppermint scent. As I was applying to the front section of my head, my eyes burned just a little from the intense fragrance of the conditioner. Being that the product contains protein, I wanted to pay careful attention on how my hair would feel with this product on it. I am on edge that I will experience protein overload for whatever reason. The bottle says leave conditioner in for 1-2 minutes. It was about 5-7 minutes before I actually rinsed out the product. The water was starting to get cooler at this point. I just went ahead and turned the water on cold to do a final rinse through my hair. #instanttorture My hair felt nice, smooth, and strong at this point.
- Rinsed scalp with diluted ACV in an applicator bottle. I did not rinse my hair but t-shirt dried for 10 minutes.
- Sealed damp hair with homemade Shea butter mix and twisted hair into slightly bigger sections.
- Covered hair.
- Went to bed.
My scalp felt so good after this wash session. I am hoping that I won’t have to do another session earlier than Sunday, but I will see how my scalp feels. I will continue using my daily moisturizing spritz. I am almost done with my current batch and can’t wait to whip up another one soon.
